Key takeaways
  • Valve reviews both your store page and your build before release.
  • Most store rejections are about capsule text, screenshots that aren't gameplay, or the content survey.
  • Your store page must be visible as Coming Soon for at least two weeks before release.
  • Fix everything in the note, then resubmit; each resubmission is a new review.

Before your game can go Coming Soon or release, Valve reviews the store page and, later, the build. Reviews typically take a few business days, so a rejection can cost you a week if you've scheduled tightly.

Store page: the usual reasons

  1. Text on capsules. Store capsules can contain only the art, the game's name or logo, and an official subtitle. No review scores, awards, quotes, prices or "out now".
  2. Library assets. The library hero must be art only, no logo or text. The library logo is a separate transparent PNG.
  3. Screenshots that aren't the game. Concept art, cinematics as most of the set, or award images.
  4. Content survey. Mature content and AI-generated content must be disclosed and match what's in the game and trailers.
  5. Description issues. Links to other stores, prices or unverifiable claims.
  6. Languages. Only list languages that are really in the build.

Build review: the usual reasons

  • The game doesn't launch from a clean Steam install
  • Launch options or depots are misconfigured
  • The build doesn't match what the store page promises
