Steam lets you set a separate price for every currency it supports. Most developers start from Valve's recommendations, then adjust. Here's how it works in 2026.

Valve publishes a recommended price for each currency at each US price point. Here's a sample of the table for a $19.99 game (effective October 8, 2026):

Three ways to convert a price

Steamworks documents three methods:

  1. Exchange rate: convert your US price at the current rate. Prices feel expensive in lower-income regions.
  2. Purchasing power: scale the price to what money buys locally.
  3. Multi-variable: combine purchasing power, the cost of comparable entertainment and exchange rates. This is what Valve's recommended table uses.

Valve has said it refreshes this data periodically, existing prices don't change unless you publish new ones, and your choice doesn't affect Steam's visibility systems.

USD regions

Since November 2023, players in Turkey and Argentina pay in US dollars, in regional groups (Middle East & North Africa, and Latin America) with lower recommended prices than the US. Several CIS and South Asian countries are also in USD groups.

Pitfalls

  • Key resellers: if you sell keys on other stores, very low regional prices can be bought up and resold. Check the share of the US price for each region.
  • Rounding: use local price endings that look natural (.99, round numbers in yen or won).
  • Discounts: a deep discount on an already-low regional price can fall below what feels sustainable.

What you actually keep

Regional prices, VAT, refunds and Valve's 30% cut all come out before you're paid. Run your numbers through the fee and break-even calculators.
